Jesse Ventura announced during an interview on the Alex Jones show that his TruTV show, Conspiracy Theory, did an episode on the TSA for its third season which has yet to air.
In the interview aired June 26, 2012, Governor Ventura said that the TSA is planning on rolling out wristbands that can identify you as being safe to fly and thus avoid the normal screening process at airports. On the darker side, these same wristbands can be used to incapacitate the person wearing them and in Jesse’s words, drop you to the ground should the TSA need or want to. If true this means that at any time while at the airport if a TSA agent doesn’t care for what you’re saying, how you’re behaving or tone of voice they could flip a switch and drop you to your knees as if you are wearing an electric dog collar.
The temptation to wear these will be appealing for many travelers (if not required by TSA and or airlines) as it will make moving through airports much faster. The psychological effects however are far-reaching into behavior modification. The effects of how people will view those in official uniform will become one of fear and instant compliance to anything they say. Perhaps even more to the point the wristband, if implemented, will add to a growing lack of movement within the United States by people opting out of travel altogether which is perhaps the desired effect.
We will keep following this story and as always look at various angles. Is this just hype to people to watch Jesse Ventura’s show and sell advertizing time? After all how could you not watch a show with this as the theme? Is the wristband story being promoted by the manufactures of the band to help win a TSA contract or some other potential client? Is it just propaganda to promote fear and thus never really have to make people wear wristbands at all? In other words the message achieves the desired result without any further action.
